What criteria are there for B2B database selections

  • Industry. This is by directory description, or Standard Industry Code (SIC code)

Most business data comes from the likes of Companies House, Credit Reference Agencies and business directories. However, sometimes it is gathered from publicly available information. What are B2B Data Licences?

Many B2B lists are supplied on a 12-month contract, which means you can work the data for a year. During that period, a prospect becomes yours to own if any of these apply:

  • You’re asked for a quote, or you close a sale
  • They request you contact them again in the future
  • They confirm you can keep their details

If a prospect gives you an alternative contact’s details, then that alternative contact is not a party to the data license. However, the original prospect remains subject to the license. After 12 months, the data must be re-licensed or deleted. As such, we always recommend that you keep the prospect list separate from your own database until any of the above instances occur, at which time you can move them into  your database. Alternatively, apply a “flag” to the database prior to importing it into your database, so you can easily identify the data source. This will allow you to quickly locate and delete the records once the license expires.
